Hosting plans are often sold on big numbers. In practice, a few other factors decide whether your website feels fast and stays online.
Match the platform to your website
Check what your site needs: PHP and MySQL for WordPress, ASP.NET and MSSQL for some business applications. Make sure the hosting supports the exact technology and versions you use.
Look at the whole package, not only space
- Email: business mailboxes with spam and virus filtering, and support for your phone and Outlook.
- Databases: how many, and which types.
- Control panel: can you manage files, email and statistics easily?
- Data transfer: enough for your expected traffic, with room to grow.
Ask about backups and security
Where are backups stored, how often are they taken and how quickly can they be restored? A host that cannot answer clearly is a risk.
Support matters more than you expect
When something breaks, you want a real person who responds quickly and speaks your language. Test this before you commit: send a pre-sales question and see how fast and how helpfully they reply.
Plan for growth and for moving
Choose a provider that lets you upgrade easily, and that will help you migrate in or out without losing email or search rankings.
